Optimization of Super Palm Olein Stability using Natural Antioxidants from Jojoba Seed Waste

In the present investigation natural phenolic antioxidants were extracted from Jojoba seed waste. Samples of defatted jojoba meal (JSM), detoxified residue (DMR) and shell (JSH) subjected to extraction by using various solvents: 70/30 (vol/vol) ethanol/water, methanol/water 60/40 acetone/water. Total phenolics content (TPC) is measured according Folin-Ciocalteu method. In addition, solvent extracts tested for their antioxidant activity (AA) in vitro DPPH radical scavenging β-carotene linoleic acid bleaching methods. The highest amount total compounds observed with 60% acetone extract JSH (163.81±6.88 mg GAE g -1 DW). On other hand, 70% Methanolic indicates free radicals. DMR had low phenolics. Furthermore, ethanolic JSM at concentration 200ppm showed good capacity stabilization super palm olein (SPO) than BHT as determined rancimat procedure. Therefore, these could be a alternative synthetic protect vegetable oils such SPO which contain different levels unsaturated fatty acids.
